On Tuesday, August 26, the Meriwether County Rotary Club proudly donated $500 to the DORCAS Food Ministry at First Baptist Church of Warm Springs, supporting its ongoing mission to assist families facing food insecurity.
Funds for the donation were raised through a simple yet meaningful Rotary tradition. Club members purchase $1 tickets for a prize drawing, and all proceeds collected are designated for the DORCAS Food Ministry. This collective effort allows Rotarians to directly support a vital community resource while encouraging fellowship and generosity within the club.
The DORCAS Food Ministry is a faith-based outreach housed at First Baptist Church of Warm Springs. The ministry serves residents of Meriwether County and surrounding counties who need temporary food assistance. The food bank operates on the third Wednesday of each month from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. In addition to food distribution, the ministry also shares helpful community resources, including job opportunities and support services.
The ministry is named for Dorcas (also known as Tabitha), a compassionate seamstress whose story is found in Acts 9:36–43. Dorcas was known for her generosity and care for the disadvantaged in her community. Her legacy continues today through this ministry’s dedication to meeting immediate needs with dignity and compassion.
